Gertrude Stein tells the story of how she was walking with Picasso on the Boulevard Raspail in Paris at the beginning of the war when a camouflage truck passed. Picasso was amazed and exclaimed: ‘Yes, it is we who made it, that is cubism.’ On the corner of the Wilhelmstrasse and Franz Klüh Strasse used to be a factory for leather parts of uniforms for the SS during the WWII. This piece is an homage to those women who perished in factories in Berlin locked during the bombings of 1945 in Berlin. They are part of the almost forgotten history of the “Zwangsarbeiter” or “Fremdarbeiter” nazi programs that were practice all over Germany during WWII.
